Punjab Police Foils Major Terror Plot, Dismantles Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) Module with ISI Links

JALANDHAR, PUNJAB: In a significant blow to terror networks operating from across the border, Punjab’s Counter Intelligence team has successfully dismantled a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module with direct connections to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The operation, which led to the recovery of 2.5 kilograms of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) materials, including a remote control, has been described as a major achievement in the state’s fight against terrorism.

The module was reportedly being operated by two UK-based handlers, Nishan Jaurian and Adesh Jamarai, under the instructions of BKI’s key mastermind, Harwinder Singh Rinda. The breakthrough operation unfolded with the apprehension of two operatives, Gurjinder Singh and Diwan Singh, both arrested from Jalandhar. Authorities believe the explosives were part of a planned terror attack aimed at destabilizing the region.

Early investigations indicate that the IED, along with the remote control, was intended to carry out a targeted attack, though the police have not yet disclosed specific targets. The swift action by the Punjab Police has prevented what could have been a catastrophic incident in the state.

The Punjab Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the SSOC Police Station in Amritsar under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Substances Act. The arrests have uncovered critical links to transnational terror and organized crime networks, with ties to Pakistan-based handlers and their ISI affiliates.

“This operation has successfully disrupted a dangerous terror plot. Our team has intercepted explosives that were meant for a targeted attack. The operation demonstrates our commitment to securing Punjab from terror groups funded and directed by foreign forces,” said a senior police official.

The arrests are part of ongoing investigations into the larger network of BKI, which has been accused of planning violent attacks in Punjab. Harwinder Singh Rinda, a known figure linked to the BKI, is believed to have been the driving force behind this specific terror cell, directing operations from abroad. Authorities are closely monitoring Rinda’s movements, as he remains a key target in the ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the state.

The swift actions of the Punjab Police reflect the heightened vigilance within the state, which continues to be a target for external terror groups seeking to destabilize India. The recovery of such explosives highlights the persistent threat of terror in the region, particularly from groups supported by Pakistan’s ISI.

“Punjab Police’s counterintelligence wing continues to make significant progress in dismantling these terror modules. Our mission remains clear: to root out terror and maintain peace and security for our citizens. This operation is a vital step in achieving that goal,” the police official added.

As the investigation progresses, the Punjab Police remain focused on identifying additional members of the terror cell and uncovering further links to international networks. The state’s law enforcement agencies are determined to keep Punjab safe from cross-border terrorism, working tirelessly to prevent such attacks before they can cause harm.

This operation is a strong reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating transnational terrorism, especially from groups operating under the support of foreign intelligence agencies. With the continuous threat posed by these organizations, Punjab Police’s efforts to neutralize terror cells remain crucial to maintaining peace and order in the region.
