Initial reports suggest that six passengers survived, while dozens are feared dead. The aircraft reportedly went down near Aktau airport.

The flight, which was traveling from Baku to Grozny in Russia’s Chechnya region, was rerouted due to dense fog in Grozny, Russian news agencies reported.

Dramatic visuals of the crash circulated on social media, showing the aircraft plunging to the ground and erupting into a massive fireball. Other footage depicted first responders working near the wreckage, attempting to rescue survivors amidst the devastation.

Initial reports indicate that Azerbaijan Airlines flight 8243 was carrying 105 passengers and five crew members at the time of the crash. However, Azerbaijan Airlines has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
