Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) received a significant boost in Punjab when Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Sukhi, the current MLA from the Banga Assembly constituency, left the Shiromani Akali Dal and joined AAP on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann welcomed Dr. Sukhi into the AAP in the presence of the party’s National General Secretary (Organization) Sandeep Pathak and other AAP leaders. Alongside Dr. Sukhi, hundreds of his supporters also joined the party.
Following Dr. Sukhi’s induction, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann tweeted that the Aam Aadmi Party family is continuously growing in Punjab and extended a warm welcome to Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Sukhi.
The Chief Minister stated that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has a strong connection with the medical community, noting that many of its ministers and MLAs are doctors. He highlighted Dr. Sukhwinder Sukhi’s consistent focus on the issues of his Assembly constituency and his reputation for avoiding controversial statements. Instead, Dr. Sukhi has always concentrated on addressing the needs of his constituents. The Chief Minister believes that Dr. Sukhi’s joining AAP will be highly beneficial for the party.
Dr. Sukhwinder Sukhi, the MLA for the Banga Assembly constituency, has been serving his constituents since 2017 and was re-elected in 2022. A doctor by profession, Dr. Sukhi has also been active in social service for many years. After joining AAP, he expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the party leadership. Dr. Sukhi mentioned that he has been impressed with Chief Minister Mann from the start and attended the Chief Minister’s swearing-in ceremony at Khatkar Kalan.
He praised the Chief Minister for his decisive actions against corrupt officials, recounting an incident where he reported a Naib Tehsildar from his area. Following his complaint, Chief Minister Mann promptly ordered the official’s suspension. Additionally, the Chief Minister has assured Dr. Sukhi that a medical college will be established in the Banga constituency.
