Chandigarh: Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha on Wednesday demanded in the parliament to bring back the royal throne of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. He said that this issue is related to the sentiments of the people of Punjab.
During his address in the Rajya Sabha, Raghav Chadha said that I am fortunate that I come from Punjab where Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh ji once ruled. Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s rule was good governance in the true sense where everyone got justice. He was such a great warrior whose name made even the greatest fighters tremble.
He said that Maharaja Ranjit Singh roared like a lion in the battlefield. He gave the message of not only valor but also humanity to the whole world. There was no discrimination in the name of caste and religion during his rule. A survey by BBC World History has given Maharaja Ranjit Singh the title of ‘Greatest Leader of All Time’. I bow to such a Mahatma in this House and appeal to bring back his throne.
He said that we all get inspiration and learnt from the life of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Therefore, his throne should come back to the country and everyone should get a chance to see it. Also, his valor, humanity and state policy should be taught to children in books so that the real meaning of good governance can be known in today’s era of politics.
He said that Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s royal golden throne is kept in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The Indian government should talk to the British government through international relations and try to bring back his throne.
