Punjab Farming Latest News: The Central Government is likely to agree to fund Rs 7,000 per acre as an incentive to the paddy farmers of Punjab to hop on to other summer crops under a federal crop diversification program. It came after a meeting between Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Punjab counterpart Gurmeet Singh Khuddian in Delhi earlier this week.
The Centre is reportedly said to have agreed to fund Rs 7,000 per acre as an incentive to paddy growers of Punjab. In the meeting, Shivraj Singh Chouhan met Gurmeet Singh Khuddian and discussed several issues to gain insight into the state of farming in the various regions.
Punjab minister also raised the issue of the growing resistance of genetically modified BT cotton to pests such as pink bollworm, which the variety was meant to tackle.
Khuddian also said that farmers needed the next-generation Bollguard 3. One of the officials said, the PM Modi-led government has so far not approved any GM crop for commercial cultivation.

The Centre has agreed to consider Punjab’s request to fund crop diversification on a per-acre basis instead of bulk transfer of resources, another official said.
